Understanding Blue Light's Impact

How Blue Light Affects Your Skin and How to Shield It

Previously we have discussed the impact Blue Light has on our skin. Now we can take a look at the methods we can follow to prevent damage done by Blue Light.

While minimizing screen time may not always be feasible, there are steps we can take to protect our skin from blue light damage.

1. Use a blue light screen protector:

Using a screen protector for your devices can reduce the direct exposure to your skin. They are designed to filter out a portion of blue light from screens, thereby reducing its impact on your skin.

2. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen:

Using sunscreen in your everyday skincare routine is key. Look for a mineral-based sunscreen that contains ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, as they provide protection against both UVA and UVB rays, as well as blue light.

3. Antioxidant-rich skincare:

Antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and green tea extract can neutralize blue light exposure, and aid in the preservation of collagen and elastin on your skin.

4. Practice the 20-20-20 rule:

The 20-20-20 rule suggests looking away from your screen every 20 minutes and focusing on an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds, which can provide a much-needed break for your skin and reduce the overall exposure to blue light.

Understanding Blue Light's Impact

By becoming aware of the effects of blue light on our skin and taking steps to protect it, we can make sure that we’re not only protecting our skin from premature aging but also helping it maintain its youthful appearance into old age.
